ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the social and psychological adjustment of the groups of schizoid boys and their matched controls who were personally interviewed in our two follow-up studies. We shall examine their work achievements, their social circumstances, their personal relationships, as well as their mental health, including alcohol problems and delinquency. (The methods used in the study have been fully described elsewhere: Wolff and Chick, 1980; Wolff et al., 1991.)

At a mean age of 22 years, 19 boys diagnosed ‘schizoid’ on referral to a child psychiatric clinic and their 19 matched controls given other diagnoses (Chick, 1978; Wolff and Chick, 1980) were seen. In addition, at a mean age of 27 years, 32 schizoid boys and their matched controls (Wolff et al., 1991) were interviewed.
