ABSTRACT
Factor analysis has been presented as a procedure for analyzing a two-dimensional data matrix. The first dimension has been the individuals who formed the rows of the data matrix. The second dimension is associated with the columns of the data matrix and has consisted of the variables. The term dimension is, however, a poor term because it is often a synonym for the term factor. In its place, the term mode is commonly used.
