ABSTRACT

When several factor-analytic studies are conducted in the same substantive area, how similar are the several factors? The question of the similarity between two sets of factors also arises when two dissimilar factor-analytic procedures are used with the same data. It could be that the same factors occur or that the factors are all different, but usually empirical data are not clear. Some factors will replicate, others will not reappear, and still others will shift their character across studies. Evaluating the replication of factors is particularly important because there are so few significance tests for factor-analytic procedures.
