ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters, factors have been extracted to a predesignated number. When this number was reached, the analysis was assumed to be complete and further factors were not extracted. Preknowledge of the number of factors desired means the area has either been thoroughly investigated or that one is testing for a hypothesized number of factors. In the latter case of hypothesis testing, it was noted that the probability that significant variance was left after the hypothesized number of factors were extracted is evaluated in maximum likelihood analysis (Chapters 6 and 7).
