ABSTRACT

November 11, 1984. Davis, California. Maya Ying Lin is on the television. She is the young Chinese-American architect who designed the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC. She is sitting with State Department officials at a dedication ceremony for the Frederick Hart statue of three bronze combat soldiers that has been set near the monument she designed. There has been quite a bit of controversy and protest over the memorial, and some individuals and groups have expressed the sentiment that the Hart soldiers should become the ‘real’ memorial. Lin does not speak. I wonder what she thinks?
