ABSTRACT

During the second half of 1907, Stanislavsky began making notes for a book he was planning on the actor’s creativity in which he stressed the importance of ‘the will’ (volya). His notebooks contain attempts to formulate the various sections of a chapter on the will under four headings:

(1) The nature of the will. (2) The inextricable connection between the will and the other creative

faculties. The natural connection between them. (3) The power of the will. (4) The properties [characteristics (svoystva)] of the will.
