Policy aspects of development and regional change I: Population movements from Ecuador’s rural Sierra

Established thus far is the link between exogenous forces outlined in Chapter Two and place characteristics associated with development. Elements of this include the finding that localized development events in Costa Rica and variables defining generalized modernization surfaces in Venezuela are manifestations of such forces. We also saw that Venezuela’s decentralization policies were an important mechanism in altering place characteristics associated with development and, therefore, differentiating places.
