ABSTRACT
Delinquent adolescents are provided for by a huge network of institutions, ranging from secure units, to probation hostels and units in mainstream schools. The staff who deal with these adolescents come from a wide range of disciplines and training backgrounds, but the most widely used treatment technique is behaviourally oriented. However, most books invariably focus on the mechanics of treatment programmes, and do not address the problems that can occur at a system or policy level. Managing Behavioural Treatment is a clear professional manual for policy implementation. In offering a management perspective on behavioural work, it gives a critique of the organizational structures and policies needed to support effective treatment, and will enable both administrators and practitioners to develop a high-quality service.
