ABSTRACT

Having looked at various factors that have a bearing on the shape and structure of an organization dealing with difficult and delinquent young people (Chapter 2), and having considered the role of assessment in the development of effective behavioural programmes (Chapter 3), we now tum our attention to the design and management of treatment programmes. It is important to state at the outset that no organization can afford to leave to chance the question of what techniques to adopt to bring about behaviour change. An overriding concern must be to identify those factors that will enhance the chances of success and minimize programme failure. The aim of this chapter is not so much to outline what methods and techniques are most effective in producing change (see Chapter 1),but to suggest how the process of treatment should be managed to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of resources.
