ABSTRACT

The analysis of the career paths followed by doctors during the years between leaving medical school and settling upon a career, as shown in previous chapters for anaesthetics and psychiatry, can be developed in various ways. In relation to general practice, we developed one type of career path analysis for doctors who qualified in 1974 (Parkhouse 1989a). For 1977 qualifiers, we carried out a more detailed analysis of progress in relation to general practice, for graduates from Scottish medical schools (Ellin and Parkhouse 1986).
