ABSTRACT

Labanotation (LN) is not just for writing and reading dances. The system, with its identifying, defining, and naming of movement concepts, allows us to organize our thoughts and to understand what we are seeing. It offers us names for different movement concepts that clarify aspects of dance such as time and space, and it gives us a vocabulary that allows for improved communication between teacher and student, choreographer and dancer, dancer and dancer. A better understanding of movement can only improve performance.
