ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book describes the broad context in which communication needs to be investigated for rehabilitation and community re-entry. It provides a conceptual framework for identifying and changing problematic communicative behaviours following traumatic brain injury (TBI). The book explores a range of issues relating to the rehabilitation of discourse after severe TBI. Clinicians need to bring to this work a strong background in discourse theory, together with a clear understanding of the neurobehavioural and psychosocial consequences of severe. TBI is a catastrophic event that alters the course of the injured individual's life, and usually has serious and complex ramifications for spouses and close family members. Inter-disciplinary teamwork has a number of special implications for the management of cognitive-communicative disorders after TBI.
