ABSTRACT

In September 1987 over 10,000 young people in Scotland were invited to complete a questionnaire on their leisure habits, their feelings about school and family, their health and their hopes and fears for their future. The schools which took part ranged from tiny one-teacher schools on remote Scottish islands to the crowded inner city schools of Glasgow. Young people in new towns, in country towns and in city suburbs alike all took part in the survey, their ages ranging from 10 to school-leaving age. At the same time their predecessors, those who had left school in previous years, were receiving questionnaires through the post.
