The road ahead for Hutchinson might now seem clear. With Belliard driven back into his lair in Cairo, the British and Turkish forces had only to advance in a deliberate converging movement to force his surrender. They would then turn and settle the fate of Menou in Alexandria. The current estimate of the French forces was 8,000 in Alexandria including seamen, and in Cairo 6,000 including natives.!
