ABSTRACT

CAMBODIAN PHILOSOPHY: The early cultural influences on Cambodia were from India. The Mahābhārata was known in Cambodia as early as the sixth century A.D. Temples to Shiva and Ganeśa (Ganeśa was the elephant headed god) may be found in the country, dating, for example, from the tenth century. The chief masterpiece of Khmer architecture was Angkor Wat, built in the early twelfth century. It is a galleried temple complex adorned with scenes from the Hindu epics.
