ABSTRACT
Previous chapters examined some of the organizational factors affecting education in Britain and Japan. Perhaps more intractable are questions about attitudes. There can be little doubt that the systems we erect, and the expectations we have of them, derive from basic attitudes whilst also helping to shape them. I am concerned, in this chapter, with attitudes connected with the class sytem in particular. These I believe have had an undermining effect on both education and industrial performance.
