TECHNOLOGY AND TRADITION: AUDIO-VISUAL CULTURE AMONG SOUTH ASIAN FAMILIES IN WEST LONDON

This ethnographic account is based on research among south Asian families in Southall, Middlesex.1 Southall is a ‘town’, formerly an autonomous London borough, with a population of some 65,000. Its demographic majority is of south Asian origin, predominantly of Sikh religion, but divided along cross-cutting cleavages of national, regional, religious, and caste heritage.
