Elites and the evolution of the British economy

In Chapter 1, a view of the general nature of the British economy since the mid-eighteenth century was outlined, one that views Britain as having always been essentially a financial and commercial power, even during the zenith of the industrial revolution. It is now necessary to look in more detail at the evolution of Britain’s elite structure in light of this argument.
