ABSTRACT

As long ago as 1713 Bernardino Ramazzini identified a condition in scribes which has since become known as repetitive strain injury. Over time it became evident that it was not just repetitive work that was responsible for the range of symptoms and disorders experienced by people in their hands, arms, shoulders and neck, and the condition was renamed upper limb disorder (ULD). This term offers a more acceptable description of what the affected person may experience.
