ABSTRACT

Society A society is a diverse but connected population of humans interacting in an economic, social and industrial infrastructure. What impact is your organisation having on society?

A central principle of CSR focuses on how an organisation relates to all of its stakeholders. The CSR concept is that we should look at the impacts of our organisation ‘beyond the factory gates’. As we saw in Chapter 2, throughout the evolution of CSR, the standards to which an organisation should operate have varied according to its location in both time and place. The society in which the organisation operates will have a range of expectations, but in the global village – full of conflicting agendas and pressures – how can any organisation hope to measure up to the expectations of everyone else?
