ABSTRACT

It is no doubt in the area o f verb morpho logy that differences between the dialects o f Ca ta l an are most noticeable. In a wri t ten text, it is most likely to be the verb forms which reveal that the text is, for example, Valencian or B a l - earic. F o r this reason we give ful l attention i n this section not only to the Gene ra l variety o f Ca ta l an (based on the usage o f the Cent ra l dialect o f eastern C a t a l o n i a and Barce lona in part icular) but also to the forms of other varieties which are accepted in wr i t ing and i n formal styles o f speaking.
