ABSTRACT

Thi s chapter deals w i t h the expression, i n m a i n clauses, o f instructions, offers, and requests, addressed to the hearer/recipient. That is, we are essentially concerned here wi th second-person requests. However, not only m o r p h o - logical second-person verb forms are involved. The first-person plura l may include the hearer also, as in Vegem-ho 'Le t ' s see'. A n d as mentioned in 11.3, the poli te second-person pronouns voste ' you (sg.)" and vostes ' you (ply are always associated wi th morpho log ica l ly third-person verb forms. In a sense, imperative utterances can be seen as a special case o f wishes; these are covered i n 19.6.
