ABSTRACT

It is fair to say that until around the mid-1980s the literature on policy coordination was slight and spasmodic. There were a few contributions which addressed the topic but interest until then was generally very subdued. Amongst the more important early contributions were those by Niehans (1968), Cooper (1968, 1969) and Hamada (1974, 1976, 1979). In retrospect now Hamada's contributions are perceived as seminal, laying the foundations for the literature a decade or so later.
