ABSTRACT
It is quite apparent from a study of British political ideology of the last thirty years, for example, that black people have only recently come to be accepted as part of the political audience and as potential voters. Previously, and with a clear dehumanising effect on the discourse used to refer to them, they were treated as political ‘objects’ rather than as agents in the political process.
