ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we explore further the dynamics of independence, dependence, reciprocity, and the rights and obligations of very old people in their relationships with those closest to them-family, neighbours and friends on whom they may count for support and very often, care. We examine the influences that these relationships have on the quality of their lives.
