ABSTRACT

Over the years, much has been written about the biology of schizophrenia (its genetics, biochemistry, pharmacology, and so on), but somewhat less has been written about its epidemiology and social aspects of the disorder; a lot has been written about the psychological deficits (although unfortunately most of this is disorganized and probably inconsequential), but very little has been said about psychological interventions for specific kinds of functional disturbances seen in patients classified as schizophrenic. This chapter is an attempt to review the latter and to generate some ideas about useful, non-physical treatments which may be worth exploring further with such patients.
