Otto who? To many students of contemporary psychoanalysis the name of Otto Rank (1884–1939) is unlikely to figure among its most prominent exemplars. He was, the more knowledgeable would probably assert, an unimportant renegade who wrote about the trauma of birth and emigrated to the USA where he was regarded as a controversial, solitary figure, now largely forgotten.
