Tabes dorsalis A rare complication of congenital syphilis: The first symptoms are often failing vision or incontinence of urine. Squint and abnormalities of the movements of the pupils of the eye are often present. It is caused by damage to nerve tissue in the spinal cord and brain. Juvenile paresis is the more usual complication of congenital syphilis.
