ABSTRACT
This is an account by John McVicar, who became one of the most famous criminals in Britain, partly because of his sensational escape from Durham Prison in 1968. The account from which extracts are given here was written while he was awaiting trial after his recapture and was published in the ‘Sunday Times’, 4 November 1973.
