ABSTRACT
I try to occupy the space provided by character and terrain . . . and to get inside that sociologically, psychologically and politically – and historically. . . opening up categories of understanding that are not available in news and current affairs items, where things tend to be bracketed and catalogued and categorised in fairly narrow definitions. I think drama is a perfect space to find ways of understanding and reperceiving the world.
