ABSTRACT
There is a popular conception of science parks, one which is used in the policy literature produced by the parks themselves, and reproduced by journalists and by other writers. It comes in two parts. First, there is the actual definition of what a science park is, and second there is a set of (often implicitly) postulated causal relations, effects which it is assumed will spring from these characteristics.
