ABSTRACT
Although progress is being made continually in all areas of environmental remote sensing to reduce dependence on the human analyst or interpreter, data analysis and interpretation by manual processes are still of basic importance and great practical value in many areas of applications. Therefore, it is right that we should review some of the most important of these areas of application before proceeding to consider elements of numerical data analysis in Chapter 9.
