ABSTRACT
Before population growth and control are discussed further, some important terms should be understood. Standing crop is often synonymous with biomass in that it represents the quantity per volume or area that is present and can be measured. The units of measure are wet weight, dry weight, numbers, or the quantity of some elemental constituent (N, P, C). Standing crop is the more general term; biomass is appropriate, of course, when the unit is mass.
