ABSTRACT

At a time when Arabic language enrollment in schools, institutes, and universities is on the rise across the United States and abroad, standardized tests of Arabic are needed more than ever to meet the growing demands for accurate information concerning Arabic language learners’ proficiency levels. Tests of Arabic comprehension and production are needed to assess the proficiency of (a) students entering college or graduate school Arabic programs, (b) students applying for Arabic language programs within the United States or abroad, (c) students completing Arabic course work and needing a measure of their achievement, and (d) language professionals seeking documentation of their proficiency to qualify for job placement in Arabic translation services, educational development, or for government work.
