ABSTRACT
This chapter will deal with the nature, diusion and persistence of personal capitalism around the world in the long run. Its main purpose is to discuss the main features of the concept of personal capitalism, and to analyse how, and why, dierent forms of concentrated ownership in the hands of individuals (and sometimes of their relatives) is common both to developing and developed countries, constituting probably the most diused form of ownership in the world.
