ABSTRACT

This chapter explores six examples of organizations that have operations on a national and international scale. The cases have been used to facilitate the development of four new models that link environmental management with business strategy in different ways. When asked about how credible the plans were for the move to an integrated environmental system, it remarked, Initially, for the introduction of the EMS we followed the ISO guidelines for 14001 but as we have developed the system, so further plans have been presented by management. All management systems are controlled from a centralized corporate office and a dedicated person, the Crisis Management Vice-President, heads a separate risk management department responsible for monitoring the environmental health and safety system (EHS) worldwide. As the EMS was an integrated part of Organization Fs overall business management system this did lead to difficulties with control, particularly when it came to EHS external auditing requirements.
