ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses reflexivity and participation as much needed approaches in the design and research of social media-supported practices for professionals. We begin with our study of a participatory design of a social media-supported collaboration model for, with, and by professionals working against workplace harassment. Our study encourages participation-oriented and user-centric fields of information and communication technologies (ICT) to embrace an orientation of “reflexive engagement” that addresses the dynamics of the design and research process (Pihkala & Karasti, 2013).
