ABSTRACT

The chapter introduces the second part of the book: Lebanese government. It outlines political developments since 1943. It also highlights the institutionalization of sectarianism in Lebanese political life, discussing the function of the President of the Republic, parliament and the make-up of political parties. An update on political developments and difficulties since the withdrawal of Syria from Lebanon is also provided.
