ABSTRACT

On 20 December 1973, BAAT received a letter from E. L. McMillan, stating that, in March 1973, the Secretary of State for Health, concerned at the problems facing the remedial professions and the lack of solutions to them, had set up an informal working party to make recommendations about the future role of and training for these professions. Some of the problems were to do with poor recruitment and wastage of staff, and with the organisation of the professions (including remedial gymnasts, physiotherapists, OTs, orthoptists and dietitians). McMillan enclosed a copy of the working party’s report which considered the relationship between therapists and a number of other professions, including psychiatrists.
