ABSTRACT

We have seen that, at the BAAT EGM in 1976, members approved a proposal recommending that all health service art therapists (and any others who were in a position to do so) should join ASTMS. We have also seen that there was a shift in tactics away from linking art therapists with adult education lecturers in the hope that they could be paid by LEAs and seconded to hospitals to trying to negotiate a place on the Whitley Council. Some of the impetus for the latter had come from the positive findings of the Joint Secretaries’ Report and some from pressure from Herts College students and staff to negotiate directly with the DHSS.
