ABSTRACT
Although the term “human rights” is used across the world in a way that suggests universal acceptance and understanding, the actual source of these rights and the implications of holding such rights are highly contentious. An understanding beyond the daily usage of the term is needed, one that examines competing claims and critiques and provides the context for discussion of the interplay between conflict and human rights.
