ABSTRACT

Take attendance and lunch count effortlessly using index and pocket cards—like those once used in library books. With these cards, lunch count and attendance become part of students’ morning routine. For each student, select a pocket card and then place the cards in alphabetical order on a board or wall. Below the cards, hang two or three pockets—depending on the school’s counting system—for color-coded index cards that signify school lunch, sack lunch, and milk only. A pocket without a card indicates that child is absent. As students arrive and put away their outerwear, they choose the appropriate card, and tuck it into the corresponding name pocket.
