ABSTRACT

Let students know you as a person. Being “human” is essential to establishing a healthy classroom community. Share information about your family, hobbies, and interests to let students know that you have a life outside of the classroom. Children often think teachers live in their classrooms! Decide what information is reasonable to share. In some areas it may not be safe to make your home location known. In a small community, however, students probably already know where their teachers live. Students should not know intimate details of your life, so take care to maintain a professional distance.
