ABSTRACT

When a student seems to have anger management issues, it is best to focus on preventing outbursts. Some students get very angry when they become frustrated with a task or situation. Monitoring these students is crucial to intervention and curbing out-of-control anger. With appropriate levels of support for the student, you can reduce his or her frustrations and, therefore, ward off an explosive reaction. Supportive actions include helping the student break down the project into small steps or giving periodic breaks from difficult tasks to keep the student calm. When a student does have an angry outburst, he or she needs to move to a designated area in your classroom or school to ensure the safety of everyone. In cases of severe anger, seek assistance from others, such as the school counselor, your administrator, and the parents. You may need to seek a referral for external personal or family counseling.
