ABSTRACT

Globalization flourished in the generation from the end of the cold war to September 11, 2001. Presidents George H. W. Bush and William J. Clinton presided over this era, one in which the United States possessed unprecedented influence over world affairs as a result of the collapse of the Soviet Empire. The United States asserted its economic and geopolitical supremacy, as its leaders trumpeted the dawning of a “new world order” in the wake of the fall of communism and victory in the Persian Gulf War.
