Did Look Back in Anger signify a revolution in the English theatre in 1956? - the question is often asked. The play is formally old-fashioned and its amalgam of sex and class was anticipated by Tennessee Williams and, indeed, Sttindbetg. Yet it was perceived as the trigger of a new movement.
