ABSTRACT

The opportunity to apply the FST principles at a meta-societal level was welcomed when a member of the Sustainable Tropical North Queensland (STNQ) proposed I collaborate with him to undertake research using systems thinking tools. STNQ is a network of business, government and community groups working together to promote sustainable economic and social objectives in the region. STNQ members formed the core group of participants in a process we ambitiously titled Greening the Economy. Our research object was to develop a model of our existing regional economic sectors, which would enable us to identify intervention points for further research and investment towards developing transition pathways towards a ‘green’ economy. That is, a post-carbon, also known as a post-‘black’ economy that is resilient and eco-regenerative.
