ABSTRACT

Those who view workaholism as a virtue would argue that a chapter on obsessive-compulsive bosses doesn't belong in a book about defective bosses. In the modern business world, compulsive traits such as perfectionism, conscientiousness, frugality, and acquiescence are often valued. Compulsives tend to be productive and achievement-oriented, rendering them potentially valuable members of business as well as of society in general. But as with most things in life, too much of a good thing can be bad. When there is too much rigidity, compulsivity becomes a disorder.
