The heading of this chapter is based on Dickens's own example. Chapter XI in the first book of Our Mutual Friend is entitled 'Podsnappery', a felicitous coinage for a delightful chapter. Of course, by 1864 the novelist hĄd become bolder, and knew more clearly what he was doing, what he was aiming at, when he was achieving a particularly triumphant success .
