ABSTRACT

The Habsburg imperial administration caught up with Lippe in the fifteenth century. Geographical remoteness, smallness and lack of direct feudal ties with the Emperors all helped Lippe to remain federally undetected. Although Lippe was assessed for pikes and lances in earlier fifteenth-century imperial assembly lists, notably to help fight the Hussites, it was not permanently caught up in demands from federal military, judicial and financial registers until the reign of Maximilian I. 1
